More than 400 Supporters Expected; Proceeds to Sustain Annual Commemorative Wreath Placements on Veteran Gravesites each December at Fairview Cemetery

New Britain, Conn., May 13, 2024 – The annual Wreaths Across America of New Britain (WAANB) effort to fund and coordinate placement of more than 1,300 commemorative wreaths on veteran gravesites at New Britain’s Fairview Cemetery each December kicks off Wednesday, May 15, with the Disabled American Veterans Hardware City Chapter 8’s Annual Pasta Dinner Fundraiser at VFW Post 511 in New Britain.

Mayor Erin Stewart addresses the large gathering at the Wreaths Across America of New Britain Pasta Dinner on May 10, 2023.

More than 400 supporters are expected at one of the City’s largest annual charity events, which takes place from 5-8 p.m. and is open to the public. Online tickets, at $15 per person, are available until 12 noon on May 15 at www.davchapter8.org. Walk-ins will be accepted only as space allows.

The Pasta Dinner and annual WAANB Project is coordinated annually by DAV Chapter 8 and a large Planning Committee of volunteers from Greater New Britain’s business, non-profit and veterans service organization communities. The committee aims to raise more than $20,000 this year. The goal is to raise dollars on a continual basis to safely ensure that the WAANB tradition at Fairview Cemetery, which takes place this year on December 14, happens not just this year, but every year to come ad infinitum.

This Wednesday’s fundraiser, at VFW Post 511, 41 Veterans Drive, New Britain, is a family-friendly event (children under 12 are free with adult admission). Dinner will feature pasta with homemade sauce, meatballs, salad, dessert and music provided by the New Britain High School Jazz Ensemble. The New Britain High School JROTC will present the colors prior to audience recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Also featured will be what may very well be the area’s largest raffle with dozens of valuable prizes, along with a 50/50 raffle with a minimum $500 prize.
