Chapter Presented with Prestigious William J. May III Service Above Self Award at Organization’s Annual Gala as 2021 Sponsor of the Year
Hamden, Conn., March 27, 2022 – The Disabled American Veterans, Hardware City Chapter 8 was honored to be recognized Saturday evening, March 26, at House of Heroes Connecticut’s Annual Hearts & Heroes Gala with the prestigious William J. May III Service Above Self Award as the non-profit veterans service organization’s 2021 Sponsor of the Year.
Accepting the award before a large gala gathering of some 200 veterans supporters were outgoing DAV Chapter 8 Commander Dennis Taricani, along with Chapter members Rich Kotek, Junior Vice Commander; Tom Higgins, Adjutant/Treasurer; Dean Buden, Service Officer; and Marvin Lazlo.
DAV Chapter 8’s relationship with House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT) dates back to 2012, when the Chapter made its first charitable donation to the group from net proceeds of the Chapter’s 2012 Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open. Since that time, DAV Chapter 8 has donated nearly $70,000 in Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open proceeds to HOHCT and has partnered with the organization to help provide much-needed home repairs and renovations to 13 New Britain veterans or surviving veteran spouses.
House of Heroes Connecticut is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that recognizes, honors and serves military and public safety veterans and/or their surviving spouses for their sacrificial service to America.
